McAninch Sports Complex and Norwalk Business Center
A combined development proposal established the McAninch Sports Complex, host to softball, baseball, and soccer events, as well as the Norwalk Business Center, home to multiple industrial businesses such as food processing, stone cutting, building materials wholesale, and electronics manufacturing.

State Certified Site
Norwalk has the first Certified Site in the State of Iowa to reach capacity. Windsor Windows recently constructing a 160,000+ square foot manufacturing center in the southernmost portion of the business park. Shortly after, Michael Foods (Post) constructed a 155,000 square foot food distribution center which added $85 million of investment in the City and is currently the largest single-site taxpayer in Warren County. The City is in the process of developing a second, mega-site to provide shovel ready lots to new larger industrial and commercial users.

Retail
Over the last four years Norwalk has seen significant growth in the retail and commercial sectors. Three new retail centers were built providing storefronts for fifteen new businesses including Jimmy Johns, Mahalo’s Coffee & Donuts, Johnson Orthodontics, RC Dermatology, and Bellflower Floral and Gift, to name a few.

Several local and chain restaurants also recently located or expanded in Norwalk such as El Dorado Grill, El Maya Mexican, Arby’s, Subway, 1908 Draught House, and the award winning Pyra Pizzeria. Additional new medical and service based businesses built new facilities including Mercy Clinics, Arch Foot and Ankle, Edward Jones, True Root Chiropractic, Norwalk Chiropractic and Jones Family Dentistry.

New Child Care and Senior Living Facilities
Since 2017, Norwalk has also seen fantastic additions to both senior and childcare options in the community. In 2018, Hubbell built Eden Crest Senior Living. Shortly after, Holland Farms Senior Living facility was completed at Holland Park, and soon to be completed is an independent senior apartment facility called Alice Place Norwalk. In 2020, Crayon’s to Pencil’s Early Learning Center expanded by added a second facility specifically for school age and recreation, and Lil’ Scholars Childcare and Preschool chose Norwalk to build a large new facility at the Legacy.

Upcoming Development Projects
The City of Norwalk is in the final stages of planning a 70+ acre development called Norwalk Central within Hughes Century Crossing. This mixed-use area will provide ample space for residents, visitors, and families to dine, shop, recreate, and be entertained year-round. The heart of the development will be a 22-acre sports and recreation campus that will bring thousands of visitors, completive sports teams, and new business to town. Anticipated start of construction is spring of 2022.

North Shore is a 360-acre area on the north side of beautiful Lake Colchester, just south of HWY 5, to the west of HWY 28. The City is currently working with a private developer to build a new four-story hotel with fine dining and addition retail along the highway, overlooking the lake. In the future, residential developments of all types will be constructed along the north side of the lake, making this area one of the most sought after in the Des Moines Metro.
