Get a Library Card

How to Get a Norwalk Library Card:


  • Norwalk residents, with proof of residency, may have a library card free of charge (see below)
  • Residents of Cumming, Rural Warren County, or any community participating in Iowa’s Open Access Program may obtain a library card free of charge, with proof of residency (see below)
  • Residents of Ackworth, Martensdale, St. Mary's, Spring Hill, and Sandyville (or communities that do not contract for library services and/or participate in the Iowa Open Access Program) will have to pay an annual fee of $27.85
  • We do not issue library cards for out-of-state individuals
  • A valid card or photo i.d. is required to check out materials.  
  • Cards are issued for two (2) year; there is no fee for renewal. A $2.00 replacement fee will be charged for a lost or mutilated card.
  • There are no age restrictions for library card applicants; however anyone under 14 will require a guardian's signature to obtain a library card.
  • By state law, all patron borrowing records are confidential, including records of minor children. Information cannot be released without due process of law.
  • Lost or stolen cards should be reported to the library immediately.

You are required to furnish a photo identification with current address OR a photo i.d. and a second item with proof of residential address.

  • Driver's license
  • Passport
  • Government issued ID
  • Military ID
  • School ID
  • Work ID

Documents accepted to verify Residential Address:

  • Driver's license
  • Voter registration card
  • Government issued ID
  • Imprinted checks
  • Motor vehicle registration
  • Most recent grade report
  • Mail with your name and address postmarked during the cur
  • Statements dated during the current month the following list:
    • Bank statement
    • Telephone bill
    • Lease agreement
    • Water bill
    • Utility bill
